PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Just in a few short years, the Electric City 167 at the Autumn Colours Classic has become one of the crown jewels that every driver wants to win. When the green flag flies at Peterborough Speedway, a pair of champions will lead the field to green flag.
2022 Sunset Speedway Champion Danny Benedict will lead the field to the green flag after putting down a lap of 13.555 seconds in the qualifying session on Saturday. The Big Ticket has spent this past season battling in the APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series, placing seventh in points with a win and six top-10’s in nine races. He also scored a runner-up in the Junior Hanley Classic at Sunset Speedway.
Treyten Lapcevich was second fastest at 13.631 seconds, driving the No. 0 normally piloted by Glenn Styres. Lapcevich is no stranger to success at the Autumn Colours Classic, having won the Super Stock edition in the past. The multi-generation driver is coming off an impressive season that saw him win the NASCAR Pinty’s Series Championship with seven wins and an average finish of 2.6 in 14 races.
Peterborough Speedway regular James Horner was third (13.723) ahead of Jacob Mercer (13.747), who recently picked up that car from Holdaway Motorsports. Multi-time champion Dwayne Baker (13.759) completed the top-five in front of 2023 Peterborough Speedway Champion Ryan Kimball, Bobby Cousineau, Coltin Everingham, Dan McHattie, and Gord Shepherd.
Dirt regular Brandt Graham was 11th fastest, followed by Paul Maltese, Billy Zardo, Josh Gruntz, Gary Elliott, Norm Stoddard, Jonah Bell, Gary Hannah, Jassen Whyte, Tyler Junkin, and Sean Walker.
