Tyler Hawn Victorious in Feature; Tom Walters Crowned Hot Rod Champion

INNISFIL, Ontario — A pair of famous names in short track racing got to celebrate on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, as Tyler Hawn won the Hot Rod feature while Tom Walters was crowned the division track champion.

John Gaunt won the first heat ahead of Tom Walters, Paul Bogensberger Jr., Thomas Dunn, Matt Spry, and Keenan Belzile.

Amanda Balson was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Tyler Hawn, Herb Walters, Jamie Cairns, Luke Gignac, and Brian Wilson Jr.

John Gaunt went for the daily double, followed by Tom Walters, Bogensberger Jr., Dunn, and Spry.

Tyler Hawn got the checkered flag in the final qualifier ahead of Balson, Herb Walters, Gignac, Cairns, and Wilson Jr.

The feature looked to see John Gaunt keep the feat going, as he took the lead with 13 laps to go and cruised away from the field across the finish line. However, upon further review in post-race inspection, he was disqualified for tire doping.

Tyler Hawn would be credited with the victory as he was able to fight his way through traffic, taking the lead initially at Lap 9 and pacing 19 laps of the event. Tom Walters came out on top of a three-way battle for second ahead of Herb Walters, Amanda Balson, and Luke Gignac.

Jamie Cairns put together one of his best runs for sixth in front of Bogensberger Jr., Dunn, Spry, Wilson Jr., and Belzile.
