INNISFIL, Ontario — It was another checkered flag for Andy Kamrath on Saturday at Sunset Speedway en route to being crowned the 2023 Sunset Speedway Modified Champion.
After laying down the fastest lap in time trials, the invert for the 30 lap feature saw the No. 35 Modified start tail end on the field. That did not slow down Kamrath’s efforts that much, as he quickly made his way through the traffic en route to taking the lead with just five laps on the board. From there on, the distance just grew between him and the field en route to a dominating feature win.
For Kamrath, it marks another win in a season that saw him go undefeated behind the wheel of the No. 35 en route to winning the track’s inaugural modified championship.
It also marked the perfect way to go out after announcing just before the weekend this would be his last full-time season behind the wheel, ready to focus on his son Rylan’s Jr Late Model effort. Over the past several years, the diversity of success seen by Kamrath has been impressive with wins behind the wheel of late models, super stocks, mini stocks, and modifieds at a variety of tracks around the province.
Rick Spencer-Walt scored a second-place finish ahead of TJ Edwards, Wally Wilson, and Brandon Feeney.
