INNISFIL, Ontario — A pair of regular runners at Sunset Speedway graced victory lane this past weekend, with Gord Shepherd and Jordan Howse taking home the feature victories.
Ryan Kimball grabbed the early headlines, though, by topping the board in qualifying, and carried the momentum into the first 35-lap feature. He stretched out his advantage over the field, until a mid-race caution slowed down the action. Shepherd was able to track him down, and began to look underneath to make the move. He’d get the nose inside, making the pass with a mere couple laps to go for the win.
The second feature saw Kimball and Shepherd on the front row once again as the fans prepared for another close battle. Kimball repeated his departure from the field once again, with Shepherd able to close that gap over the long run. The pair got themselves knee-deep in lap traffic, and that is where things changed. As they were going around Jonah Bell, the No. 13 came up off the bottom slightly. This resulted in contact, with Shepherd then spinning Kimball. Kimball was not happy, making contact with Shepherd to see him black flagged.
Howse inherited the lead from the pair, holding off Dustyn Mombourquette in the final run to the checkered.
