INNISFIL, Ontario — On a day where they were honoring the legacy of Allan Lankin, a pair of his best friends battled for the victory in the Pro Late Model feature at Sunset Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
Danny Benedict qualified fourth in time trials, but was able to find his way to the lead in the early stages of the event and set to drive away as he had back in May’s APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series event at the track. However, he was not able to get far, with Jordan Howse tracking him down over the course of the middle.
Howse, who was the quickest qualifier at 14.580 seconds, found his way to Benedict’s bumper and alongside him for the top spot. The pair battled side-by-side for over 10 laps, with Howse utilizing a low-run into the corners beneath the No. 54 in hopes of trying to get by. His efforts were rewarded as he cleared him with a couple laps to go, pacing the rest of the way en route to win.
Josh Stade ran inside the top-five throughout and was able to out-battle Dustyn Mombourquette for third, while Paul Maltese rounded out the top-five.
