INNISFIL, Ontario — It wasn’t the night that Rick Spencer-Walt envisioned at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, placing outside of the top-10 following a spin mid-race.
The day started off well for Spencer-Walt’s return to the APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series tour, as he timed in seventh quickest with a lap of 14.493 seconds, just 0.20 off of the quick time.
The invert for the Stewart’s and Kubota 100 saw him start 10th on the field, looking to make his way forward when the green flag waved. He was able to make some moves through the first quarter, finding his way up to seventh by Lap 25.
However, everything shifted with the handling beginning to fade on the No. 31W Late Model, resulting in Spencer-Walt fading back a couple spots to just outside the top-10 before the halfway mark. He would make a pit stop under one of the cautions in hopeful the changes would see their race turn around. Although he got a good restart, it did not last as he found himself turned around backwards shortly thereafter courtesy of contact from another competitor in turns three and four.
Restarting at the tail of the field, he would try and rebound for a good finish, ultimately crossing the finish line in 14th.
