INNISFIL, Ontario — Battling his way to the front of the field, Doug Butler scored the Mini Stock feature victory on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Doug Butler won the first heat in front of Cameron McGlashan, Blaise Shaw, John Bird, Charlie Smith, Jason D’Antimo, Doug Wilman, Wyatt Sutcliffe, Madisson Tienkamp, Randi Seguin, and Austyn Jennett. Seguin had all the fans on the edge of their seat when she got loose off of turn four, aimed for the inside frontstretch wall. She kept her foot in it, and worked at trying save it, finally going around for a spin in turn one. Jennett, meanwhile, failed to finish after suffering damage while battling three-wide on the fronstretch with Smith and Bird.
Tyler Seaboyer was victorious in the second qualifier ahead of Jacob Sutcliffe, Ryan Edwards-Kiss, Peter Wakeling, Kris Inglis, Eric Rainey, Coleridge Phinnemore, Curtis Stewart, and Bob Phinnemore. Curtis Stewart went around for a spin off the nose of Inglis, but was able to keep it off the backstretch walls in the process.
Despite starting mid-way through the field, Doug Butler wasted no time carving his way to the front, utilizing a couple three-wide moves down the backstretch to move into third with just five laps on the board. He took over second just a few laps later, and began to reel in the leader. He’d track down the No. 23 Acura Integra for the lead, beginning to look for a way underneath. He’d make the pass, leading the remaining 11 laps aboard his No. 10 Nissan 240SX to score the win.
Tyler Seaboyer held on for the runner-up spot ahead of Cameron McGlashan, Blaise Shaw, and Charlie Smith. Jacob Sutcliffe kept his good season rolling with a sixth in front of Jason D’Antimo, John Bird, Ryan Edwards-Kiss, and Curtis Stewart. Doug Wilman placed 11th, followed by Peter Wakeling, Kris Inglis, Eric Rainey, Madisson Tienkamp, Wyatt Sutcliffe, Austyn Jennett, Bob Phinnemore, and Coleridge Phinnemore.
