Wally Wilson Puts Together Busy Canada Day Weekend

DELAWARE / SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Racing across three days in two different types of cars at separate tracks, Wally Wilson certainly made the most of the Canada Day long weekend.

Wilson started the weekend at Delaware Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 69 Modified, hopeful for success after a rough beginning to 2023. He started on the front row for his qualifying heat, leading the field to the green flag en route to placing sixth. This set him up to start 11th for the feature, to which he’d battle hard until mechanical issues sent him to pit road early. He was credited with a 16th-place finish.

He looked to turn the weekend around on Saturday, starting off the evening with a seventh in his qualifying heat. He started near the back for the feature, but persevered to finish 12th.

The persistence despite a wreck and mechanical issues currently has Wilson ranked 11th in the year-long standings, six points outside of the top-10.

Wilson then made the trek home to Sauble Speedway on Sunday, ready for his T.Q. Can-Am Midget debut, thanks to Larry Wilson. After signing autographs for the fans at intermission, he utilized the feature to learn more about the new type of car he was behind the wheel of, crossing the finish line in 11th.

“(I) learned a lot yesterday in the Can-Am Midgets,” Wilson said on Monday. “Hopefully we can do it again soon. Huge thank you to Larry Wilson and Jody Bound for giving me this opportunity! Also thanks to Larry’s Small Engines, BW Towing, Weatherill Performance and The Fyre Place & Patio Shop!”

Thanks to The Fyre Place & Patio Shop, HAVE1.COM, Napoleon, Wilson CANUSA Sale, McColl Racing Enterprises, and Stickers N’ Scuff’s for the support this season of the modified effort.
