Trevor Collver Victorious in Canada Day 50 at Delaware Speedway

DELAWARE, Ontario — Making his way to the front of the field, Trevor Collver drove away from the competition in the closing stages of the Canada Day 50 at Delaware Speedway.

Starting fourth for the 50-lap feature, everybody knew the No. 1 would be a threat for the victory in being a past track champion. Those predictions were on-par as they watched him grab the lead on Lap 5, stretching his advantage with each of the 45 laps that followed to just over a second. The lack of cautions worked in his benefit as the drivers behind were unable to reel him in, with Trevor Collver visiting victory lane.

The battle for second, though, was another story as it came down to the wire with a trio of competitors fighting for position. Carson Nagy began the second half behind his competition, though quickly made his way by Lane Zardo by third on Lap 35. He reeled in Shawn Chenoweth in the next couple of laps, though was unable to find a way underneath him through either end of the track. This allowed Zardo to challenge back for the spot, sometimes finding his nose underneath Nagy in the process.

The persistence from Nagy paid off, though, as he made his move with a couple laps remaining, passing Shawn Chenoweth on the last lap for the runner-up spot. Lane Zardo and last year’s series champion Pete Vanderwyst rounded out the top-five. Track regular Ryan Bright surprised with a sixth in front of Chase Pinsonneault, Ryan Dyson, Rick Verberne, and Connor Van Steensel.

Gord Shepherd struggled to find the handling on the No. 30 all day en route to 11th, followed by Nic Ramsay, Roy Wilkie, Brandon McFerran, and Coltin Everingham.
