Dalen Martin Makes Late Race Pass for OSCAAR Hot Rod Feature Victory

SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Threading the needle through lap traffic, Dalen Martin picked the right lane to take the lead in the final stages to win the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods feature, sponsored by The Fyre Place & Patio Shop, on Saturday night at Sauble Speedway.

The first JRS Auctions heat did not go smoothly, as Bill Clarke slowed with an issue. Rob Bromley picked up the checkered flag in front of Steve Book, Jeremy McLean, Tyler Hawn, Travis Farrow, Nick Holman, Ed Peterson, Kyle Woods, and Clarke.

Dalen Martin won the second qualifier ahead of Rob Wark, Mat Hopkins, Nick Clarke, Doug Wilson, Thomas Wunsch, Brian Wilson Sr., Jeremy Taggart, Jason Ritchie, Matt Spry, and Douglas Fischer.

The third heat started off with a yellow on Lap 1 for Wunsch going around on the backstretch. Taggart went around on the backstretch on the restart, collecting Holman as Fischer took a trip through the grass. The event then ended with Peterson and Wilson Sr. getting together on the last lap in turns three and four. Tyler Hawn picked up the win, followed by Martin, Book, Hopkins, Adams, Peterson, Cowan, Wunsch, Taggart, Holman, Fischer, and Wilson Sr.

The fourth qualifier began with contact between Wilson and Nick Clarke, costing them both as they suffered flat tires. Rob Bromley went for the daily double, in front of Farrow, Wark, McLean, Woods, Spry, Wilson, Clarke, and Ritchie.

When it came time to the feature, a full field of 23-cars left things interesting on-track when the leaders caught lap traffic. Although able to weave their way through most of the event, a pair battling ahead of top-two side-by-side with four to go ultimately decided the event. Rob Bromley, who had led all the laps up until that point, elected to go with the bottom lane through turns one and two. Dalen Martin chose the outside, and was able to power his way by to the lead.

Dalen Martin scored the victory in the caution-free event in front of Rob Bromley and Matt Hopkins. Although normally known to carry the No. 44 on his car, he ran Connor Ellis’ to earn him points after Ellis broke up during pre-event practice. Tyler Hawn and Steve Book rounded out the top-five, ahead of Nick Clarke, Rob Wark, Brian Wilson Sr., Travis Farrow, and Ryan Cowan. Thomas Wunsch placed 11th in his series debut, followed by Ed Peterson, Nick Holman, Jeremy Taggart, Jaymee Adams, Matt Spry, Jeremy McLean, Douglas Fischer, and Jason Ritchie.

The next event for the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods is a double header on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 at Delaware Speedway.
