INNISFIL, Ontario — Taking the lead in a daring fashion in the opening laps, Tyler Hawn was able to lead the rest of the way en route to winning the Hot Rod feature at Sunset Speedway.
Tom Walters won the first heat ahead of Herb Walters, Jamie Cairns, Thomas Dunn, and Matt Spry.
Tyler Hawn was victorious in the second qualifier, but the event was clean by any means. He and Balson made contact on the opening lap in turn two for Hawn to spin, while Luke Gignac went around after contact with Rob Bromley. Balson was able to get a runner-up in front of Bromley and Keenan Belzile, with Gignac fifth after pulling into the infield before the checkered flag.
Tom Walters went for the daily double, followed by Herb Walters, Cairns, Dunn, and Spry.
Tyler Hawn also pulled off a second win, ahead of Balson, Bromley, Belzile, and Gignac.
Come feature time, it’d be Amanda Balson pacing the field to green and looking to check out ahead of everyone. However, she would not go without challenge in both Walters trying to find away by the No. 16 Camaro. Tyler Hawn then took advantage when the door slightly opened, taking it three-wide by both Balson and Herb Walters to grab the advantage. He then cruised away, snagging the checkered flag.
Amanda Balson started to close the gap, but a motor issue in the final five laps saw the gap stop shrinking. She still held onto second as Herb Walters out-battled Tom Walters for third. Jamie Cairns completed the top-five, ahead of Thomas Dunn, Rob Bromley, Luke Gignac, Matt Spry, and Keenan Belzile.
