INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite being involved in a wreck in qualifying, Jake Spencer-Walt rebounded for a podium finish in the Jr Late Model feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The third generation racer started at the back of the first qualifier, and was looking poised to make his way to the front for another checkered flag. Unfortunately, a competitor ahead of him got loose and into the frontstretch wall, coming back across the track into Spencer-Walt and another driver. The result was catching a bit of air, before contact with the frontstretch wall.
Spencer-Walt was uninjured in the wreck, but serious damage was done to the car. His team, though, went to work immediately in making the necessary repairs to get him back out for the feature later that night.
Starting at the back for the feature after missing the second heat, Spencer-Walt wasted no time making his way through the field to take over the lead with just eight laps on the board. He looked poised to score another victory, when he was challenged for the top spot in the final five laps. He would go back and forth with crossovers by both drivers, with Spencer-Walt ultimately coming up just short across the finish line.
The runner-up marks his third podium in three races this season, following victories at Sunset Speedway and Peterborough Speedway.
The third generation racer is proud to be supported by Quarries Tire & Auto, GreenSteelRoof.ca, G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore, B&B General Contracting, Dunlop Billiards Sports Bar & Eatery, ImageWraps.ca., The Frame Shop, Short Track Musings, and Two Speed Motorsports.
