Fighting through mechanical issues, JR McNeal was able to overcome them in Wheelie Competition to score his first victory of the 2017 Monster Jam campaign.
Following racing qualifying, the top-eight are allowed to continue in the racing bracket, while the bottom six are sent to Wheelie competition.
Mike Vaters in Black Stallion kicked off the competition, putting together a single mid-air wheelie for a score of 23.
Cory Rummel in Rage then kicked it up a notch, performing a pair of mid-air wheelies, plus one higher in the air for a score of 30.
Devin Jones in Barbarian took a shot, performing a single mid-air with a pair of small jumps for a score of 24.
The performance of the day, though, came from JR McNeal in Xtermigator who performed a wheelie across the stadium floor, along with two semi-air wheelies for a score of 31.
Mike Thompson in Wrecking Crew was hoping to score his third wheelie win of the season, but three small jumps only garnered him 26 points.
Mike Vaters II in Overkill Evolution finished off the competition, making one small jump before pulling off with an apparent mechanical problem. He’d score 25 points for his efforts.
As a result, JR McNeal and Xtermigator got their first victory of the season, and first in the city of Toronto.
“I’ve been fighting front steering problems all weekend, but I wanted to put on a show,” he said. “I broke another pump, but I’ll just put in another one again and break it again in freestyle.”
