After experiencing problems during Saturday’s Monster Jam competition, Coty Saucier and Monster Energy rebounded to pick up the racing victory at the Rogers Centre on Sunday.

His speed showed right from the start in qualifying as he was quickest with a time of 19.639 seconds, over Saturday Freestyle Victor Becky McDonough (El Toro Loco) with 19.732 seconds. They, along with Saturday Racing Victor Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) were the only three drivers to break into the 19-second bracket as Anderson had a 19.866 seconds. The rest of the times can be seen below.

  • Matt Pagliarulo & Jester – 20.680
  • Mike Christensen & Iron Outlaw – 21.104
  • Jamey Garner & Over Bored – 21.249
  • Carl Van Horn & Grave Digger – 21.559
  • Todd Morey & Bounty Hunter – 21.686
  • Mike Thompson & Wrecking Crew – 21.836
  • JR McNeal & Xtermigator – 22.582
  • Devin Jones & Barbarian – 22.612
  • Mike Vaters & Black Stallion – 23.968
  • Cory Rummel & Rage – DNF
  • Mike Vaters II & Overkill Evolution – DNS

With the qualifying times set, the top-eight drivers moved on to the racing brackets, while the bottom six got to take part in the wheelie competition.

The racing bracket started off with Saucier knocking out Morey with a time of 20.014 seconds. Christensen easily got the win in the second quarter final race with a time of 21.516 seconds as Paglarulo spun around in the third turn, and failed to finish. Anderson kept up his solid performances, knocking out Garner with a time of 19.475 seconds. Horn won the final race of the quarter finals with a time of 20.983 seconds after McDonough (pictured left) caught the turn car in the second turn.

The semi-finals saw the driver mistakes continue, along with a close race which had the whole stadium on their feet. Saucier took the first semi race with a time of 20.434 seconds after Christensen did a bicycle off the fourth turn car. Anderson then beat out Van Horn by 0.023 seconds in the second semi-final race with a time of 19.895 seconds.

The final race was close between Saucier and Anderson, as expected, with Anderson crossing the finish line first. However, as he came up on the final ramp, only the left front tire was on the ramp with the right front barely hung off (pictured below). Per Monster Jam officials, both tires need to be on the ramp to be deemed a legal run, or you get a time penalty. Therefore, Anderson was assessed a penalty, giving Saucier the victory with a time of 20.171 seconds.

“I need a cold Monster Energy to cool me down,” Saucier said. “I’m racing my own race – but what happened there for Ryan? Did he miss the ramp? It doesn’t seem like a fair race, but a win is a win. It’s great to be here – it’s cold, but great to be there. We brought that truck all the way from Florida – was hoping to bring some of the warm weather with it – and are now ready to freestyle.”

For Coty Saucier and Monster Energy, it marks his first victory in Toronto at the Rogers Centre, but marks his third win of the season following a racing victory in Orlando, and a freestyle victory in Tampa.
