More clues in regards to the 2017 OSCAAR schedule have been released, as the series confirmed on Facebook they would be at Kawartha Speedway twice in 2017.
“OSCAAR is very excited to announce that the Outlaw Super late models, Mods and Hot Rod Series, will be returning to Kawartha Speedway for two big shows in 2017,” the series released on Facebook. “Please watch for the press release of the complete 2017 schedule shortly. This is going to be one season you do not want to miss.”
It’ll mark the first time since 2014 since the series has raced at the oval located at the Kawartha Downs Casino.
The OSCAAR Super Late Models are coming off an impressive season, which saw a battle all season-long for the championship, with J.R. Fitzpatrick snagging it in a late-race move to get by Glenn Watson at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic. The last time the outlaws battled at Kawartha, it was Andrew Gresel picking up the victory in both events with Watson second in the spring, followed by Jesse Kennedy in the summer. Notably, those wins were part of a dominant campaign for Gresel as he won the series championship that season.
The OSCAAR Modifieds are coming off a successful season which saw a highly contested OSCAAR Race for the Cup across the province, with Gary McLean coming away as the champion for the fifth straight season ahead of rookie Luke Gignac and sophomore A.J. Emms. The last time the open-wheel cars battled at Kawartha, Chad Strawn won the spring event while Gary McLean won the summer event over Max Beyore and Terry Baker.
Meanwhile, OSCAAR began to put the pieces of the Hot Rod Series together last year, set to bring the retro steel bodied racecars of the 1949-early 1970s era back to the track in an affordable fashion.
